Perak Gerakan mulls calling for party to leave BN PDF Print E-mail

(The Sun) - Fed-up with racial and religious sentiments played up by certain Barisan Nasional component parties for their own political millage, Perak Gerakan is contemplating calling for the party to leave the coalition.

Datuk Chang Ko Youn

The majority of the 378 Gerakan delegates who attended the party state delegates meeting today, expressed disgust at the fanning of racial and religious issues which is causing much anxiety and concern among Malaysians at large.

"Racial and religious sentiments have been fanned by a few component parties for the past five months since March 8, causing much uneasiness and fear among Malaysians as to the path the country is heading to," said Perak Gerakan chairman Datuk Chang Ko Youn.

"Most of the delegates at today’s party meeting expressed their wish that Gerakan pull out of BN as they are unhappy over the fanning of sensitive issues that would bring disunity among fellow Malaysians."

"That this is against the party’s principles which advocates the concept of Malaysia for all Malaysians which is free from racial and religious politics," he told reporters after the meeting officiated by Acting Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

Present at the meet were party adviser Tun Lim Keng Yaik, National Youth chairman Datuk Mah Siew Keong and senator Datuk Dr S. Vijayaranam.

Chang said the move to leave BN has taken shape last year by many party members but this momentum to leave the BN coalition only gained speed after March 8th general elections.

"This issue will be debated in the party’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October and a decision (whether to leave or stay with BN) will be taken at the meeting."

Similar views were also voiced by PGRM National chairwoman Datuk Tan Lian Hoe who said that many state as well as federal level wanita party delegates had voiced such a call to leave BN.

"We will forward the request to the party. The issue is expected to be debated extensively and hotly before a decision is made on the matter," said Tan, who is also state Wanita chief and Deputy Information Minister.

Similar sentiments were also expressed by newly elected state Youth Chief Chuah Chee Kuan who said it is about time that Malaysians think as one instead of along racial lines.

Later, Koh who was with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in Permatang Pauh to campaign for Barisan Nasional said the issue of Gerakan leaving BN does not exist.

Commenting on Tan' statement asking Gerakan to leave BN because Umno was too racist, Koh said

Tan was merely reflecting the feedback of the people.

"I was shocked to hear her making the statement. (She) as a Deputy Information Minister will get a lot of feedback from the people and I think what she was saying was the voice of the people.

"I am still unable to contact her, but the party will talk about it," he told reporters when the question was posed to Abdullah.

"The issue of Gerakan leaving BN does not exist," he stressed.

Correct statement Gerakan, UMNO is racist to the core.

You will be welcome to join PR to any party, if you feel good with DAP join them. If you feel good with PKR, also join them. But try to avoid PAS as their ideology is conservative and could be UMNO in making.

There are many good people in Gerakan but not your useless and ball-less president KSK.

Gerakan is irrelevant now and should you do not take right move, it will sink forever. Just ignore MCA, they deserve the fall.

This has been the most sincere statement from a component BN party so far since the March 8 election. Of course sincereity and honesty must be backed with action. Umno has not shown and done anything as far as racial fairness is concerned. Instead they have been fanning racial tension for the sake of their survival. You guys in Gerakan in Perak should pull out of BN now and join PKR. Just do for Perak and I am sure other states will follow. It is time you guys restore your own dignity and respect and win back the trust of the Rakyat.

Gerakan has certainly aided, abetted, and promoted racial nationalism.
Racial nationalism is the prime cause of the racist pressures and frictions that now comprehensively permeate our society. Racial nationalism has failed in every nation that tried it.

You are accountable - and you will be brought to account.

People have been telling Garakan to leave the BN for a while now. The writing is on the wall. Even the majority of Garakan members know it. If their leaders want to stay with BN, let them. The rest who want to leave should do it now and join up with Pekatan. Why stay in a sinking ship whose captain and crew are like pirates? Leave now and let the rest rot with the BN. Togather with Anwar, let's make Malaysia a better place for everyone irrespective of race or religion. History will remember you kindly for your action.

GERAKAN, TAKE THE LEad! Take the very first STEP to achieve glory for the country. Your move to leave the BN will be a source of joy and happiness to the majority of the Malaysians. Your move will be an ACT OF PATRIOTISM. STOP MULLING, and JUST DO IT. There are other BN component parties waiting for you to lead and we the Rakyat will show our appreciation to you during the next General Elections.

I know of a number of MCA chaps who had left MCA on their own accord. Why wait until Oct to debate and make a decision ? Is Gerakan trying to hedge her bet and wait and see if DSAI made it as the PM ? If so the timing is a tad disingenious. If you people have already made the diagnosis then why not get out of the disease state ? Folks like Lim KY had allowed himself and the party to be used and manipulated by UMNO for ages now. Not that the racist's pathology of UMNO was not known all these years - just that many of them were enjoying the "perks" and "sweet deals" that came with the position of power.

Just do it. Don't have to wait.

Gerakan should leave the BN and join PK. No need to disband the party as Gerakan is multi racial like Keadilan and DAP. Now, if PAS should open up for non muslims, meaning the Chinese, Indians and the various races from Sabah and Sarawak to be members, I'll (a Chinese) be the first to join. So please take note Yang Mulia, president of PAS.

Yes, for the sake of future generations, PR is the way to go. BN has failed miserably despite 50 years of rule. All Gerakan states should know its time to do the right thing and follow the wishes of the rakyat, not just Gerakan Perak. Otherwise, change your name to BELAKANG to depict how UMNO is treating you now

For a political party that was established on a multi-racial platform, Gerakan has been trapped by its hopeful desire to "shape" the Malaysian politics from within the ruling party. However, for that to happen, it needs uncompromising politicians who will not hesitate to put down their foot, within the BN, at any racial politics that rear its ugly head, and make a clear stand

Gerakan, stay within the BN, if you want, but make a stand for a Malaysian Malaysia even at the cost of being booted out by the BN and you will win the support of all Malaysian.

I do not support the demise of BN but I am hoping that the BN will, by sheer force of the will of the people, be compelled to adopt a multi-racial platform. That way, we will have a two party system that will be a check and balance to each other, lest one party gets too arrogant when it has no competition.

But for the immediate future, first a change of Government. the BN has had 50 years . . . and that is too much. Anwar must be given a chance to prove that he will be the first Malaysian PM that has the support of all races. He is saying the right things now and he needs to be able to demonstrate, when in power, that he will also do the right thing.

As it is, Gerakan is irrelevant. Their leaders are not in sync with the people. All this while their leaders have been saying things that go against the wishes of the rakyat, even when we reminded them. They lived like ostriches!

October is too late! Gerakan leaders have to make a joint statement before August 26th acknowledging their not representing the rakyat's wishes all these years, an apology, and that intend to leave BN.

Another thing, if Gerakan leaves BN, then it might as well adopt the same policies of DAP. Better still they acknowledge DAP/PKR and join or merge with it! I don't think there is place in Pakatan for another DAP or PKR look alike!

Yeah, this is what it takes. Don't bother calling PR if this change is not what is sought for.

If by chance BN thinks of reforming, then it has to adopt the same policies of DAP and PKR. Simple as that! BN has to become a DAP look alike, 'Malaysian Malaysia and Ketuanan Rakyat.'

I didn't understand why there is a need for Gerakan to 'mull over the decision to leave BN', unless there are top leaders there who have been, and are still, taking the crumbs that Umno throws down at them. So, they are afraid they will get caught. Can Gerakan honestly tell me, in what way has BN or Umno benefitted all Malaysians over the past 15 years? Even if you have not taken the crumbs, are you telling us that you believe in a crooked government, a corrupt judiciary, unjust economic & education systems for Malaysians, increasing corruption and criminal activity, and many more injustices? Because your continued support is clear evidence that you do support these malpractices. Simple as that!

It is about time that Gerakan wake up from being the lap dog of the racist UMNO and regain the respect you have lost. Still, this is all talk now and might be might be misconstrued as just a political ploy to garner sympathy. When Gerakan really leaves and join PR, then only can the people believe in you. I would recommend that Gerakan Perak resigns and join PR and not form a new party that will dilute PR. Meanhwile, as a precaution, PR should be cautious about any new parties joining PR as their strategy is to dilute the party. Sorrt Gerakan, you will have to earn the people's trust again after how you have sold us out to the racist pigs.

This is good and healthy for Gerakan. They(Perak) have taken the first step in correcting Gerakan's problem.
I hope Gerakan could trace back to their early days when the party was first formed(also as an opposition) and remember what was their cause and what they stood and fight for.
I hope come Oct, the senior levels too will "wake" up and make the right and correct decisions.

What is Gerakan which is founded on social justice and multi-culturalism doing in BN? With the loss of Penang, the gravy train has departed so still waiting at the station?

Just 'gerak' now! No need to mull till October and come out with a half-ass statement of solidarity with BN.

GERAKAN! Everyone knows why Gerakan, MIC , MCA performed so poorly in the GE. It's because of UMNO's arrogance and big mouth. They think they are invincible. They hurt the minorities feeling by being insensities to their needs, i.e., Temple Demolitions,Body snatching,Religious intolerance, worsening racial discrimination, interference in the Judiaciary and freedom of press, Human right abuses, calling names and racial slurs(and Many many more).Remember the Bersih, Hindraf etc demo and the high handed method employed to curb them.If only they were not arrogant and had "lend a ear" to peoples grievances, things would have been different. But you can't blame UMNO because it's in their blood. Can't change them so the best solution now for Gerakan is to join PR and work for the betterment of all Malaysian regardless of race, creed and colour.I wonder if MIC and MCA going to sink with the ship. ATTN: GERAKAN,

To Leave or To Stay on with BN is NOT the question.

Rather, do ask yourselves these questions:

Is Gerakan truly a party which cares for all Malaysians irrespective of race?
How much did Gerakan do for the underprivileged class of rakyat Malaysia - whether bumi or non-bumi?
How did some of your leaders amass millions of Ringgit, in particular Dr. Lim KY and his brother? Because they were astute businessmen?
What did Gerakan do or say, everytime the a**holes in UMNO threatens racial violence?

Basically, you PHUCKERS did nothing!!! So please phuck off!
