MCA can’t represent Chinese Malaysians: Nazri
(Sin Chew Daily) — Tourism and culture minister Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz claimed that MCA could not represent the Chinese community of Malaysia, nor could MCA Youth chairman Datuk Chong Sin Woon because he did not win an election.
When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Nazri said he was a professional who respected democracy.
He said MCA could not represent the Chinese community because the party was badly defeated in the 13th general elections, managing only seven parliamentary seats and beaten in Chinese-majority constituencies.
“Look at the Parliament. How many DAP reps do we have? And look at Penang where Chinese are the majority. DAP is the ruling party there and so I said DAP represents the Chinese community because I respect election results.”
Nazri said he works with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng because he is the chief minister of Penang and DAP is the state government as the Chinese there have made the choice.
“I respect DAP’s MP for Seremban Anthony Loke because he is an elected rep.”
‘MCA not my friend’
On the Robert Kuok issue, Nazri said he had never mentioned nor attacked MCA from the very beginning, and could not understand why MCA chose to open fire at him.
“Since they have chosen to fight me, I will fight back. I will not back off!”
He reiterated that he would not apologize and was prepared to fight the entire MCA election mechanism.
He also admitted that MCA was not his friend, citing the row dating back to the 2013 general elections over a squabble he had with then MCA president Tan Sri Chua Soi Lek.
“The whole Padang Rengas MCA exco boycotted me, and openly withdrew their support for me. What do you want me to do? So I said MCA is not my friend!
“If they were my friends, why didn’t they support me? Until now they still have not apologised to me, and I am quite sure they will continue to boycott me in GE14.”
