(The Star) - The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is launching an anti-Valentine’s Day campaign Friday.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom said the campaign would be launched during a forum, "Awas - Jerat Valentine's Day" (beware of Valentine's Day trap) in Putrajaya Friday night.
Apart from members of the public, Jakim has also invited 1,000 students from higher learning institutes to participate in the discourse.
Jamil said the National Fatwa Council had, in 2005, decreed that Muslims should refrain from celebrating Valentine's Day, as it was not part of Islamic practices.
On PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi's offer to work closely with religious authorities to check sinful activities at favourite lovers' spots around the country on Valentine's Day, Jamil said it was not advisable for them to do so.
"Their (PAS Youth's) presence may cause unnecessary tension.
"They should leave it to the relevant authorities to carry out their duties," he said.
Nasrudin had said that the wing was prepared to assist religious authorities to promote healthy sin-free lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Jakim will also provide anti-Valentine's Day flyers and stickers to be distributed in campuses in the run up to the celebration on Feb 14.
Jakim public relations officer Asiah Alkharib Shah said the awareness campaign would be extended to all the states.
"We will be giving piles of flyers and stickers to raise awareness on the Valentine's Day trap to the university students attending the discourse.
"We want the students to pass the flyers to their friends and university mates in campuses," she added.

Why so 'SUSAH', JAKIM can just ask Najib to announce a new Malaysian calender where the date FEB-14 is removed, since there is no Feb-14 then there will be no Valentine day! Mahathir also remove 0.5 Hour of our time to make East Malaysia same time with Peninsular-mah.

While there are many versions of Saint Valentine's Day many people over the years have not only limited the thought of it being a Lover's day but extended the day for love between family members,like a child will ask his or her mummy and daddy if there could be their Valentine..And what the hell is wrong with that?... Is is sexual or sinful? Who made the muslims an expert of what isn't theirs to begin with?..If everything not created by Islam or Muslims is said to be Haram or a Christian or English behaviour and to support it would mean supporting Christians and English ( like what the Ustazah remarked ) then what would the description and appearance of Muslims around the world be? What would Muslims lives be like? What would they wear,eat,live in,drive in,entertain and celebrate?? If from what she says then everything about Muslims now is Haram...Even to sent their children abroad to English or western or International Schoos/hihger Education countries would be Haram,because you educate yourself with the English Education therefore you support their concept and system..even if you visit/holiday in other non-Muslim countries would be considered haram,Even if you design or renovate,name your residence with ideas of the west that means you support it,therefore haram..
Why are Malay wedding having white gowns and suits,bouquets and 3 tiered cakes,flowers,confetti,etc?....all an english/western/european and actually a Christian concept ...
Why give duit raya,a chinese angpow tradition... The children in the kampung go door to door to collect a little Halloween concept (trick or treat) and of course it's treat..the packet was an idea from the Chinese,so now they will condemn the Chinese way just because some ulamas realise that it should be a habit in Islam or would they advise the Muslims to refrain only because it's not a requirement in Islam?..

Valentine's Day is not to be blame here but the failure of the government and Islamic authorities to come up with something fun. All this Muslims authority are busy telling people what not to do instead of coming up something fun and wholesome for the young generation to do. Anti-Valentine's day my arse and this is coming from me who doesn't think much about Valentine's Day. Let the young one enjoy it while they can. Even those that order this don't know they are going to heaven or not.

Why are the religious authorites stating that muslim will engage in immoral activites due to Valentine's Day..? Are they then declaring that muslims will always be influenced by the way of life of non-muslims because muslims are naturally a community that are easily tempted?
And also muslims don't understand their teachings therefore a reference to non-muslim way of life is always needed to explain the do's and don't of Islam ??

Is this a joke or what? The country has so many problems unresolved. To start with, the security problems. People has been robbed, cars stolen, and so many securities issues. Police claimed they are lack of resources. Now we have a department want to catch monitor and catch muslims celebrating Valentine day?
Common!!! Suggest the to Government to close down Jarkim and move everyone to boost strength of the police so that this country be more secure. As for Valentine day, whoever want to celebrate this is their choice. There is no religious significant. For God sake, don't make this country look like a fool.
