Yong: He must have considered all the factors

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said former Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat must have considered all legal and political factors when choosing Ansari Abdullah as his lawyer in the suit against the Kudat Town Board.

"We must assume that he fears not the political implications of using the de facto opposition party leader as his lawyer," Its President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said in a statement here.

He was commenting on the choice of Chong in choosing the opposition Keadilan Liasion head as his counsel in the case.

"In compliance with the rules on sub judice, one may not comment on the current court case itself.

"However, its political implications have come into the domain of public interest," he said in a statement.

Chong, who is Tanjung Kapor Assemblyman, filed the suit in respect of the Mazu statue in Kudat, in his capacity as the Kudat Thean Hou Charitable Foundation Chairman.
