Indonesians In Malaysia Told To Respect Country’s Laws

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) — Indonesians in Malaysia have been told to respect the laws of the country to preserve the good relations between the two nations.

Acting Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Tatang Budi Razak said there was a small group of irresponsible Indonesians who tend to play up certain issues that could jeopardise the good relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"When we are in a foreign country we must respect the country's laws and avoid acts that could hurt the local people," he told reporters at an Aidiladha gathering at his residence here today.

He said Indonesians in Malaysia should be grateful because the country treated them well, owing to the fact that they come from the same stock.

At the same time, he said, Indonesians working in various sectors in Malaysia were also contributing to the economic development of the country.

Tatang said that although there were Indonesians involved in crimes in the country, their numbers were small.

He also said that misunderstandings between both countries should be resolved in an amicable way because if left unchecked, it could harm both sides.

More than 2,000 Indonesians residing in the Klang Valley attended the gathering where Aidiladha prayers were also held, with an independent preacher from Indonesia, Dr Abdullah Yassin, delivering the sermon.
