PKR wants Musa to clarify on Fatwa

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah called on the Chief Minister to confirm reports about a Fatwa (Islamic decree) purportedly issued by the State Fatwa Council in July this year declaring the Chinese goddess of the Sea, Mazu, as inappropriate and haram.
"We would like to hear from the Chief Minister himself whether the report is true or false," said the party's Deputy Chairperson, Christina Liew, in a statement, Friday.
She said one of Sabah's distinctive characteristics was that its people have been known to be able to live in complete harmony with different races and religions, adding she hoped the Government would not take away the harmony enjoyed since before independence.
"Perhaps its time for the National and State leaders to walk the talk when they preach about freedom of religion as it is already guaranteed in Article 11 of the Federal Constitution," said Liew.
