Hisham wants Gerakan to explain Youth veep’s remark

The Star

Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein hopes Gerakan will explain the racially sensitive remarks allegedly made by its Youth vice-chief S. Paranjothy.

Hishammuddin regretted that such remarks were made, saying Gerakan members should by now understand that in the 50 years Malaysia had been independent, the country had been able to develop peacefully with all the various races progressing together.

Paranjothy is alleged to have issued a press statement claiming that he was not happy with Umno and the way Indians in the country were being treated.

He claimed that Umno was fond of bashing other component parties in the Barisan to remain popular with the Malays.

Hishammuddin, who was at a Hari Raya Haji celebration here, said:

“The Barisan leadership views this matter seriously and it must be explained clearly so that everyone in the coalition right down to the grassroots level understands Gerakan’s position.”

He added that Umno Youth would make its stance known should a good explanation

not be forthcoming from Gerakan. – Bernama
