Paranjothy unfazed by criticisms
Gerakan Youth chief Mah Siew Keong hoped Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties could respect Gerakan's decision in handling the issue of Gerakan Youth vice-chief S. Paranjothy, who claimed that Indians were treated as fourth-class citizens recently.
"If we have to talk about BN spirit, BN component parties should respect each others," Mah told reporters after attending the meeting with Gerakan Youth central committees at Gerakan headquarter.
"BN spirit should be built at the basis of mutual respect. If you want others to respect you, you should respect others."
Commenting on the action could be taken against Paranjothy, Mah said this case was being handled by discipline committee, therefore Gerakan Youth Chief would present their views to the committee.
He said Paranjothy has given explanation to Gerakan committee Wednesday (26 Dec).
Mah believed that the discipline committee would give a fair hearing to Paranjothy in order to make a suitable judgement because the committee members are experienced party members.
Paranjothy was quoted in the Internet as saying that Indians were treated as fourth-class citizens, a statement that has stirred up some unpleasantness in the community and Barisan Nasional.
He said the Indians took part in the illegal demonstration organised by Hindraf to express their "frustration and anger" because the community was marginalised, oppressed and ignored.
Acting party president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said on Sunday that Paranjothy would face the disciplinary committee and central working committee for making racially sensitive remarks. (Sin Chew Daily)
