KUALA LUMPUR, MON:

Syarikat Jaminan Kredit Perumahan Bhd (SJKP), a company under Minister of Finance Incorporated, has launched a scheme to offer housing loans to enable those without fixed income to own low- or medium-cost houses.

The company signed agreements with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd on Dec 27, 2007, to provide bank loans to qualified applicants, SJKP said in a statement today.

The scheme was announced in Budget 2008 to help groups such as farmers, fishermen and small entrepreneurs, and SJKP was set up for the purpose on Dec 6, 2007.

The scheme, which aimed to provide loans up to RM60,000 with a repayment period of up to 40 years, is open to all Malaysians who meet the requirements, including adequate income to repay the loans.

Those interested to apply can contact BSN or Bank Islam branches.

Meanwhile, SJKP has signed an agreement to appoint Prokhas Sdn Bhd, a company under the Minister of Finance Incorporated, to run its daily operations for two years.
