Misinformation by Ong Tee Kiat on KT’s Chinese support for MCA
In the aftermath of Kuala Terengganu by-election, where BN was delivered a resounding defeat, MCA president Ong Tee Kiat has been going various media outlets (here here here) saying MCA has enjoyed increased support from Chinese voters in KT. (He of course thanked them for that and indirectly claimed credit from BN that MCA did well.)
Pundits are generally doubtful of such assessment. Me too. Upon receiving more detailed information an hour ago, I went on to make my detailed analysis. The following two tables analyse BN’s and PAS’ performance in four areas known to have high Chinese voter concentration. The analysis focused on the proportion of votes obtained over total votes cast. (The absolute votes are affected by the drop in turnout of 2.6%.)
