Bumiputeras In Opposition States Need Help – Noh

(Bernama) — UDA Holdings Berhad and MARA have been urged to help Bumiputera traders in states ruled by the opposition own business premises at big shopping centres.

Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said this was necessary so that Bumiputera traders in the states concerned could compete with the other races.

"Bumiputera traders in Penang must be helped as not many have business premises at good locations.

"Uda and Mara must play a bigger role in helping those in opposition ruled states," he said after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Penang Islamic Council (MAIPP) and Uda Land North Sdn Bhd to manage and develop wakaf land.

Noh said Uda would buy and rent out business premises so that Bumiputera traders could get to do business at premises with good location and at reasonable price.

However, Uda would only allow the Bumiputera traders to rent the premises for not more than ten years before giving the opportunity to others.

He said this was because by then, the traders who had rented for ten years would have had saved enough money to buy their own premises.
