PKR likely to field Indian candidate

(The Star) MALACCA: PKR is likely to field an Indian candidate in the Bukit Selambau.

PKR de factor leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the seat in Kedah had been allotted to the party.

“There is a likelihood we will field an Indian candidate,” Anwar told reporters after meeting up with local PKR leaders in Cheng on Monday night.

He added that former Bukit Selambau assemblyman V. Arumugam decided to resign as he had been harassed by certain quarters.

He said he conveyed his decision both to Anwar and PKR president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail.

Anwar said the PKR in Kedah was stable despite Arumugam’s resignation.

In Sungai Petani, PKR supreme council member and Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul said a special meeting was held yesterday and 15 names were listed as potential candidates for the Bukit Selambau by-election.

“We have sort of identified the person. He is a local guy and well known to everyone there,” said Johari.

Johari added that PKR would wait for the Election Commission to make a formal announcement on the by-election before revealing details of the candidate.
