Cops: Umno Youth gathering illegal

(The Star) – Police have classified the gathering in front of DAP national chairman Karpal Singh’s office on Tuesday as illegal and have identified five people involved.

City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said no permit was granted for the gathering. Some 200 Umno Youth members took part in it.

He said police would record statements from the five this week. He was responding to Karpal Singh’s allegation that police were “cooperating” with the demonstrators who had gathered outside his Jalan Pudu office.

DCP Muhammad Sabtu said 89 police reports were made against Karpal Singh for his remarks over a suit he intended to file against the Sultan of Perak.

Police interviewed Karpal Singh for more than two hours yesterday in relation to two of the reports.

On the Umno Youth demonstration, Karpal Singh said it should not be part of the Malaysian culture.

“If there is a memorandum, please come as gentlemen. I don’t run away from challenges,” he said.
