No probes into RPK’s “made up stories”, court told
(Bernama) PETALING JAYA, 12 Feb 2009: Bukit Aman-based National/Interpol Bureau Centre assistant director DSP Gan Tack Guan told the Sessions Court here today that no investigations had been conducted into stories "made up" by blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin.
He said this when cross-examined by Raja Petra's lawyer Gobind Singh Deo.
Raja Petra, 59, was charged with publishing a seditious article entitled Let's Send The Altantuya Murderers To Hell on Malaysia Today news blog on 25 April 2008.
During the proceedings Gobind pressed for explanations from Gan as to why no investigations had been carried out into the contents of the article including allegations that there were a letter in support of Altantuya Shaariibuu's visa application and a picture taken during her birthday at Mandarin Hotel in Singapore which implicated Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. He also asked why no investigations had been carried out by embassies including the Malaysian missions in France, Mongolia, United Kingdom and China.
Gan said the lack of investigations was not an issue as the allegations were fabricated by Raja Petra since there were no witnesses during the Altantuya murder investigations that had come forward with evidence to substantiate the claims.
He said he had tried to investigate Burmaa Oyunchimeg (a witness in the Altantuya murder trial at the Shah Alam High Court) but she could not produce the picture.
On Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda who was charged with abetting two Special Action Unit operatives in Altantuya's murder but was acquitted by the High Court at the end of the prosecution case, Gan said he did not how Razak had been involved.
"To abet is to get involved which in my opinion Razak had been allegedly involved with the two accused but I don't know how."
This response drew Gobind's reproach.
"You have worked for 30 years and you do not know how to answer my question. Don't fool us. When I say you are a useless officer, you get angry.
"I have given examples, namely whether the abetment was in the form of giving money, lending a car, tying up the body or abducting the victim, but you still don't know how to answer it. You shouldn't think we are stupid," he said.
The trial before Judge Rozina Ayob continues on 23 April.
