Bankrupt of Ideas – Tawfik Ismail

“Every time I appoint someone to a vacant position, I make a hundred unhappy and one ungrateful.”- King Louis XIV.

I refer to to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s latest posting entitled “Fitnah” dated 15th Febuary 2009.

Tawfik Ismail has the gall to hurl malicious, disparaging and outrageous allegations against former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. It is clear that Tawfik bears a grudge against Dr. Mahathir for unceremoniously dropping him as a Member of Parliament.

The majority of UMNO members find it difficult to recall the exemplary contributions of Tawfik to the party. He certainly was within the circle of UMNO elites but no great political moves nor ideas from him. In fact, many younger generation of UMNO members haven’t even the slightest clue who Tawfik is. Perhaps, he is more famous now if ever he was- because Dr. Mahathir has chosen to set the record straight.

Any right thinking person would find it difficult to believe the things that Tawfik alleges Dr. Mahathir said to him in their meeting. It sounds like a cooked up version of events.  Tawfik has angered many people when for reasons only known to him, has chosen to attack a much respected statesman.

In case Tawfik is unclear of where he stands then he should be told that he is not the choice of a great number of UMNO members as their leader. He wasn’t then, neither is he now. It would also probably help if Tawfik could highlight his fantastic business achievements that could serve to inspire younger Malaysians. In particular, what happened to the Tun Dr. Ismail school?

Dr. Mahathir has devoted his life to this nation. His wisdom and leadership is evident and needed now more than ever.

Long Live Mahathir!
