Charge Karpal with sedition, says Mukhriz

(NST) – The Home Ministry should immediately take legal action against DAP national chairman Karpal Singh over his intention to sue the Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.

Member of parliament for Jerlun Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said to date, about 100 police reports were lodged nationwide against the Bukit Gelugor MP for allegedly committing treason and disrespecting the Malay monarchy institution.

"Charge him under Sedition Act or the Internal Security Act whichever is suitable… but strict action must be taken against Karpal," he said after launching a community programme for fisherman, farmers and breeders in Kampung Kuala Sanglang here yesterday.

Mukhriz said Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should also be taken to court for the political turmoil in Perak.

He claimed that Anwar was the mastermind behind former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin's unprincipled stand.

"After meeting the Sultan of Perak, Nizar said he would wait and abide by the decision made.

"But Nizar suddenly changed his mind after the Perak ruler asked him to resign as the menteri besar. I believe it was Anwar who had influenced Nizar's decision and for this, the PKR de factor leader should be liable for his actions," he said.

On other matters, Mukhriz expressed his willingness to accept deputy Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's invitation for a meeting of the candidates for the party Youth chief and deputy chief posts.
