More coffee with your sleaze, sir?

(Malaysian Insider) – Here we go again: there is nothing like a liberal serving of sleaze with your morning news to get you going.

The Sun newspaper’s front-page story of a Pakatan Rakyat assemblywoman’s nude pictures making the rounds is not just another personal tragedy. It is sleaze making its very real presence felt in Malaysian politics … again.

These are private nude photos and somebody has put it into circulation. The keyword here is private, not nude. At the very least, this smacks of a personal betrayal but of course, it is much, much more.

The assemblywoman involved will very likely make a statement later in the day. But we all know how that is going to play out.

After all, the country’s imagination was gripped with details of the sodomy accusation against Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not that long ago.

Till today, people snigger about stains on mattresses and more recently, stained underwear. When will this end?

While many Malaysians will surely enjoy this latest scandal – surely the search for her pictures will be taking up much broadband width – there are many of us who think, “Enough already!”

The economy is tanking, and what this country needs is leadership. Helmsmanship. Not yet another sleazy outing involving our legislators.
