Karpal receives two live bullets and a death threat

In yet another attempt to bully Pakatan Rakyat leaders, DAP chairman Karpal Singh received a letter containing two live bullets and a threat to take his life and those of his family.

The letter and enclosed contents were delivered to his home in Penang. The veteran politician was not in at that time and today lodged a police report, accompanied by his son Jagdeep Singh Deo.

“The envelope was found in my post box at my home by my clerk Ahad Hassan, and it was handed to my legal firm in Green Hall,” the 68-year old Karpal told reporters.

“When it was opened at my office by another clerk, the envelope was found to contain two live bullets and a handwritten note.”

Political extremism on the rise

The note contained a threat to kill Karpal and his family.

The Bukit Gelugor MP believes the threat is related to the political issue in Perak, where Umno Youth members have been trying to outdo themselves in a bid to whip up Malay sentiments ahead of next month’s internal party polls.

Hiding behind a wish to protect the rights of Malay Rulers, Umno Youth leaders including Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, former Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Khir Toyo and even Oxford-educated Rembau MP Khairy Jamauluddin have been threatening treason and banishment in a bid to milk votes.

Ironically, it was their own leader, former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who in 1993 stripped away the Rulers’ immunity from prosecution, making no one above the law.
