10,000 signatures for Eli – from Bt Lanjan and Bt A’bangsa with love

(Suara keADILan) – A petition containing 10,000 signatures collected from across the sprawling Bukit Lanjan state constituency was presented to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim today, in a massive show of support by the constituents there for assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong.

“We want to express our strong support for Elizabeth and want her to continue to serve as our state representative and executive councillor for Consumer Affairs and the Environment,” said Bobby Gan, chairman of the Bukit Lanjan Residents Association.

Eli, a fast-rising keADILan politician, was stopped in her tracks two weeks ago, when pictures of her in partial undress and asleep were illegally circulated in a bid to smear her name.

She has offered to quit both her state seat and executive councillor post, but KeADILan has asked her to take a break before finalising a decision. She is now overseas on leave.

Police today warned that doctored pictures of her are being circulated on the Internet and through hand-phones. So far, police say they have only two photos of her and believe the rest are being distributed for either profit or ulterior motives.

Bukit Antarabangsa folk chip in for Eli

Meanwhile, Gan and four other officials presented the petition to Khalid’s political secretary Niz Nazmi Nik Ahmad at the lobby of the Selangor State Secretariat this afternoon.

Gan told a press conference that the signature campaign began last Wednesday at several key districts including Bukit Gasing, Kota Damansara and Bandar Utama.

Residents at Bukit Antarabangsa – the site of a tragic landslide last year – remembered Eli for her tireless efforts to alleviate their plight and also wanted to chip in. Their signatures have been included in the petition, Gan said.

Khalid is expected to brief the Selangor Sultan during a weekly meeting today.
