Two Opposition Reps Claim Receiving Cash Offers To Quit Party

(Bernama) — Two opposition assemblymen today lodged reports with the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) claiming they had been offered cash if they were to declare themselves independent or join Barisan Nasional (BN).

DAP's Keshvinder Singh (Malim Nawar) said he was offered RM20 million while Abdul Yunus Jamsari of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) (Kuala Kurau) said the amount offered to him was between RM3 million and RM8 million.

Speaking to reporters outside the MACC office here,

Keshvinder said the offer was made by several agents who claimed they represented Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also Perak Umno liaison chairman.

One of them was a local Chinese newspaper journalist, he said.

He said that other offers were that if he were to join MIC, he would be appointed Perak MIC chairman and state executive councillor. The offer to serve as state executive councillor came after BN took over the state government, he said.

"I ask Datuk Seri Najib to come forward with a statement relating to this matter because this action obviously shows this country's government is too corrupt and very desperate," he said.

Meanwhile, Yunus said that besides cash, he had also been offered a logging concession he if were to leave his PKR.

The offers were made by several businessmen who claimed they represented the Perak government leadership, he said.

Accompanying the duo at the MACC office were seven other opposition assemblymen. They were Ramli Tusin (Semanggol); A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong); Chan Ming Kai (Simpang Pulai); Chang Lih Kang (Teja); Sum Cheok Leng (Bercham); Leong Mee Meng (Jalong) and Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah (Titi Serong).
