Chairman of Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing urged all parties to stay calm in the aftermath of a scuffle today between Umno Youth members and Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers.

The group, led by Serdang Umno youth chief Ungku Mat Salleh attempted to stop DAP veteran leader Karpal Singh from entering the Parliament building.

Tiong urged all politicians to respect and defend the country’s constitution. Politicians should not insult the constitution by provoking it.

He asked that people should not speculate until the investigation is completed.

“It is unfair to make baseless accusations because it will lead to a misunderstanding. Accusations such as murder, kidnapping, threats should not be made unless there is proof.

“Everything happens is all Umno’s and Barisan Nasional’s fault. This will lead to high emotions and incidents will happen,” he said.

“The BNBCC wants harmony and there to be political stability. This is because only through political stability can only the country move forward and the current economic turmoil be stabilised.

“Our duty is to raise issues and rectify the problems. We should not use the Dewan to attack each other. Don’t need to raise sensitive issues among the races,” he added.

Tiong King Sing also wants an investigation into the claims that the police did not help the Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh.

“This incident should not have occurred because it is the responsibility of the police to protect and serve the members of parliaments.

“BNBCC would like to urge the Police and the Speaker to make a ruling that all member of parliaments are not allowed to bring in supporters or friends without a prior approval from the Speaker.”
