Officials, Please Take Care!

Hong Zhao Guang, a recognized health expert in China, came out with a theory that “the more corrupt the man, the faster he dies”, causing great responses in China. However, a lot of facts proved that non corrupt officials may as well die at young age.

The death ratio for local lawmakers to die during their terms of office seems pretty high. It seems a bit incredible, though, but it is a true phenomenon.

Let's take the 2004 general elections as an example. The country held six state by-elections after the general elections as the then incumbent assemblymen died of accidents or deceases.

Touch wood! Less than a year later after the 8 March general elections, three lawmakers have died, bringing us three by-elections. In accordance with this trend, the death number record of the 2004 general elections would soon be broken.

In addition, all the three lawmakers who recently died were below 60 years old.

"Why they died at young age?"

Kuala Terengganu MP cum Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismali died of a heart attack when playing badminton in the evening of 28 Nov 2008. He was 59.

Pas Bukit Gantang MP Roslan Shaharum of Pas died of heart failure when cycling in the morning of 9 Feb 2009. He was only 50.

Batang Ai assemblyman cum Sports And Agriculture Assistant Minister Datuk Dublin Unting Ingkot died Tuesday (24 Feb), nine months after falling into a coma following a massive stroke in May last year. He was 56.

Their deaths did not merely bring us three by-elections, but also caused us wondered: Why they died at young age? Was it because they have forgotten former MCA President Tan Sri Dr Ling Liong Sik' “advice” that “all men need to release additional or overflowing energies”? Or was it because politics brings too much of stress that shortens human lives?

An official friend of mine, who survives on medicines, told me that his lawmaker career does not make him rich and successful. Instead, his health has been harmed by continuous social activities. It is really difficult to keep a long life!

Therefore, officials, please take care!
