Respect Individual’s Private Rights And Privacy, Says IGP

(Bernama) — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the public should respect an individual's privacy and private rights.

He said with the advent of technology and availability of facilities like handphones with built-in cameras, there was more need for the people to be more cautious.

"An individual's private rights and privacy have to be respected," he told reporters after a meeting with state crimes investigation heads nationwide here today.

He also advised the people to refrain from indulging in improper activities by exposing themselves in acts which could be deemed as pornographic.

Musa said this in response to a statement issued by the Selangor palace yesterday expressing the Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj's concern with the intrusion of an individual's privacy and private rights for purpose of destroying one's dignity and reputation.

On investigations into Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong's nude pictures scandal, Musa said police were still investigating and that action would be taken against anyone found distributing pornographic materials to the public.

He said police were also waiting for Wong's boyfriend to return from overseas to record his statement on the matter.

On the sex DVD involving MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, he said investigations were carried out based on complaints from the public that the DVDs had re-surfaced and being circulated.

"Soon after we complete the investigation, a report will be sent to the prosecution's office," he added.
