Ruler accepts explanation on car and cows, says Khalid

(The Star) – Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who has been accused of having misused state funds to pay for the maintenance of his personal car and purchase of Hari Raya Aidiladha cattle for his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency, said he has briefed the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on the matter.

“The Sultan says there is no restriction on using my personal vehicle as my official car, if all the legal provisions are adhered to,” Khalid told a press conference after chairing the weekly exco meeting yesterday.

He added he had informed the Sultan that the use of his personal car was within the stipulated provisions.

On the matter of cattle being sent to his constituency during the Aidiladha festival, he said the Sultan encouraged the move.

“His Highness, the Sultan has no objection and said he encouraged such charitable gestures to be continued and extended to Kuala Lumpur, including Bandar Tun Razak,” he added.

Khalid said he would be writing to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for an explanation over its chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan’s recent statement that there was strong evidence that he (Khalid) had misused his power over the maintenance of his personal car and distribution of the cattle.

He added that a legal notice would be sent to Gerak Malaysia chairman Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus for an explanation on the allegations that he (Khalid) had misused his power.

“If he does not respond, we will institute legal action against him,” said Khalid. Gerak, an anti-graft watchdog, had reported Khalid to the MACC for the purchase of the cows last month.

Meanwhile, Khalid said the identity of the individual involved in the alleged fraudulent purchase of apartments in Saudi Arabia by Permodalan Negri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) would be revealed later.

When asked if the state government would report the matter to the MACC, Khalid said: “Not yet. We will be professional (about it) and will see the response from those concerned first.”
