Ku Li backs Hadi’s call for national unity government

(The Star) – Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is supporting PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s call for the formation of a Federal Government comprising Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

Such a government, dubbed a “national unity government”, would be a move in the right direction to restore stability, he said.

“The economic crisis is rapidly descending on Malaysia, a country with heavy emphasis on trading, and the people are paying a price for the excessive politicking with no end in sight.

“We must place unity above political divide when we head into a crisis,” the Kelantan prince said in an interview yesterday.

Tengku Razaleigh, who twice lost out on his bid to contest the Umno presidency post since 2004, also said there was a spike in the crime rate.

“Petty crimes such as snatch thefts and robberies are on the rise. I am worried as the police seem unable to cope with the surge in crime,” he said.

In an interview with an online news portal recently, Abdul Hadi made known that PAS was keen to form a national unity government.

Hadi said the matter had not been raised at the Pakatan leadership council but that PAS leaders had discussed it at length.
