MACC Chief Not Intimidated By Opposition

(Bernama) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner stands by his recent announcement of strong evidence that Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had misused his powers.

As such, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan said, he would not be intimidated by any legal action taken by Opposition parties.

"We have to stand up for what we are doing. (As public servants) We do the right thing. But I (also) welcome negative comments and will look into any wrong-doing.

"We must work together to fight against corruption," he told reporters after a joint-training shooting programme between MACC and Brunei Corruption Prevention Agency (BMR) at the General Operations Force (GOF) shooting range at 29km Miri-Bintulu Road here Saturday.

Last week, Ahmad Said had announced that MACC had strong evidence of Khalid misusing his powers as menteri besar over the maintenance of the latter's personal car and distribution of 46 cows for slaughter in Khalid's Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency.

His announcement in Penang drew flak from several Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including DAP chairman Karpal Singh, who questioned Ahmad Said's motive in publicising the findings of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Said gave the assurance that MACC was well-prepared to monitor the three by-elections expected in Bukit Gantang in Perak, Selambau (Kedah) and Batang Ai (Sarawak).

On the joint-training programme between MACC and BMR, he said it was part of the continuing collaboration between the two bodies to raise the skills of their staff in handling firearms.

BMR director Pengiran Kasmirhan Pengiran Haji Tahir said the occasion also provided an opportunity for them and MACC to discuss joint-intelligence and networking in preventing corruption, particularly at the Malaysia-Brunei border.
