Muhyiddin blasts DAP leader

(The Star) – Umno vice president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin slammed Johor opposition leader Dr Boo Cheng Hau for playing racial politics by comparing “bumiputraism” with South Africa’s former apartheid system.

Muhyiddin said he was shocked by Dr Boo’s statement as it could cause undue racial tensions.

“I don’t know why, he as an elected assemblyman, would want to make such a statement when it could bring about racial tensions. It just shows DAP’s narrow political agenda, which does not take into account the country’s political situation and historical events.

“It is clear that Dr Boo does not understand our history and Malaysia’s position in comparison to other countries,” he said after attending the Sabah Umno-organised introductory session for Umno candidates to meet state delegates.

He said the special rights of Malays and other bumiputras were enshrined in the Constitution and should not be questioned.

He said government policies like the New Economic Policy have never excluded any race as reflected in the success of many non-bumiputras.

Muhyiddin said that if Dr Boo had looked at the course of history, he should not have raised issues that could only split the people.
