BN Opposition In Perak Should Compromise, Says Mukhriz

(Bernama) — Jerlun Member of Parliament Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir today urged the government and opposition in Perak to come to a compromise and address the main issues like the current economic meltdown.

Admitting that the political crisis in Perak was increasingly bewildering, Mukhriz who will be contesting the Umno Youth chief post this month, said the impasse would be a disadvantage for all parties involved if allowed to prolong.

"At the moment, we seem to be neglecting other more pressing issues due to the political crisis in Perak. I think this is not fair for the people," he said when interviewed over Bernama's Radio24 programme, "Kerusi Panas" (Hot Seat), here.

To a question delivered via SMS and posed by the programme's host Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, who is also Bernama's editorial adviser, on the action by some Umno election candidates to use the Perak issue to win support from the delegates, Mukhriz said:

"It is better for the Barisan Nasional (BN) and the DAP-PKR-PAS pact to cooperate in administering the state and solve economic problems like unemployment faced by the people.

Mukhriz, who is also an Umno Youth executive committee member, said a survey showed that 70 per cent of the people were just tired of political issues and wanted all quarters to return to the original path of governing the country well.

"As long as there is no party giving way, the political impasse will remain. And for as long as we delay resolving the problems faced by the people, the more everyone will lose out."

Mukhriz said the decision on who should be ruling Perak should be made by the court as both parties had taken legal action.

The political crisis in Perak has persisted for more than a month now when the Pakatan Rakyat comprising DAP, PKR and PAS did not accept the BN taking over the state government on Feb 6 and is challenging the matter in court, resulting in the political and constitutional crises in Perak.

Yesterday, State Assemby Speaker V. Sivakumar held an emergency assembly sitting together with 27 Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen under a tree near the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building which houses the State Assembly hall.
