Foundations of country being wrecked, says Ku Li

THOSE who ignore the Constitution in pursuit of their own political interests are wrecking the foundations of the country, veteran Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was quoted as saying in Makkal Osai.

In response to the Perak crisis, Tengku Razaleigh lamented that one of the most prosperous state had been reduced to a “failed state.”

He said Barisan Nasional’s takeover of the state government had set off a chain reaction of illegalities, leaving the state “quite possibly without a legitimate government.”

He said that with each violation, the sense of decency, restraint and the habits that bind us to the Constitution have been loosened.

He pointed out that the confidence in the rule of law has been diminished. When the government of the day ignores the principles such as separation of powers, the Constitution becomes a dead piece of paper.

Tengku Razaleigh said the Constitution was the foundation and source of the legal authority underlying the existence of Malaysia. (The Star)
