Karpal Singh faces sedition charge

(The Malaysian Insider) – KUALA LUMPUR: DAP chairman Karpal Singh is facing prosecution for sedition tomorrow, probably in relation to his statements regarding Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.

A posting on his party colleague Lim Kit Siang’s blog today said Karpal would be charged for sedition at the Jalan Duta Sessions Court here tomorrow morning at 9am.

The news comes after his son Gobind was suspended for one year from Parliament for calling Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a murderer last week during a parliamentary session.

“Darkness descends every day with Najib Razak getting closer to become the next prime minister,” Lim wrote in his short post today.

Following the decision of the Perak Sultan to dismiss Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin as mentri besar and appoint Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Karpal had threatened to sue Sultan Azlan Shah.

Karpal, as have many PR leaders, contends the Sultan has no right to dismiss the mentri besar.

This view was recently backed by the former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said the Perak power grab was illegal because the Sultan had no right to dismiss the mentri besar.

But Umno leaders had organised a number of demonstrations against Karpal and accused of him of treason.
