MACC receives info allegedly linking ex-minister to land scam

(The Star) The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received information on a questionable land deal which is linked to a former minister.

A source from the commission confirmed it received the information yesterday.

“Some information was passed to us for our perusal but no report was lodged against the former minister,” said the source yesterday.

It is understood that the former minister is from the MCA. It was made known that the information which the commission received was in the form of several documents.

The documents have been circulating on the Internet for some time.

They allegedly point to a scam surrounding the sale and purchase of a piece of land earmarked for the construction of a health clinic in Johor Baru.

It supposedly showed that a company was formed to purchase the land for RM8mil.

It was subsequently acquired by the Government for RM29mil.

One of the company’s directors and shareholders is said to be a brother-in-law of the former minister’s political secretary.

The documents allegedly showed that the company purchased the land in October 2005. The gazetting for the land acquisition by the Government occurred the following month.

The documents also purportedly showed that the land was originally restricted to be used for the construction of a private school.

The documents also showed that the company had authorised a possible relative of the political secretary to collect the acquisition compensation. The relative is neither a director nor shareholder of the company.
