Police reports on drawings mocking Sultan and Mufti

(TheStar) – About 10 police reports have been made over the distribution of caricatures mocking the Sultan of Perak and state Mufti over the past week.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Raja Musa Raja Razak said the reports were lodged by PAS, PKR and mosque officials here.

“We are investigating them. No one has been arrested yet,” he said yesterday.

Bukit Gantang PAS election director Asmuni Ali earlier told reporters at the Perak PAS headquarters in Jalan Air Kuning that he believed the caricatures were the work of Barisan Nasional or its agents.

He said the reports were made from March 13 to Friday.

However, ACP Raja Musa noted that no report was lodged over banners in Kaki Bukit which have caricatures mocking Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the late premier Tun Hussein Onn and Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu.

He scoffed at Asmuni’s claim that police were acting under pressure from Barisan Nasional in not issuing a permit for a ceramah by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin last Thursday night.

“The decision not to issue the permit was my decision and it was not dictated by any quarters,” he said.

Asked why a permit was allowed for a Barisan gathering in Taman Kota Jaya where Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak spoke, he said:

“He (Datuk Seri Najib) represents the government of the day but should PAS assume such a status, it will be accorded similar privileges.”
