Dissidence With Chinese Community Is Negotiable, Says Khairy

(MySinchew) – Newly-elected UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin hoped that the Chinese community can see him as an open-minded leader that does not only concern about Malay issues, but as well non-Malay and Chinese education issues.

He said that there may be different views but everyone can sit down to discuss and resolve the problems.

“I don't want people to see me as a person that refuses to listen. You can disagree with me, but at least we can discuss and resolve the problem together,” said Khairy.

Khairy told Sin Chew Daily that UMNO Youth needs to resolve racial issues, including BN member parties' and Chinese community's negative impression on UMNO. The relationship between UMNO and the Chinese community has to be repaired as soon as possible.

Mentioning about MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, who always has a dispute with him on various issues, Khairy said that they are actually having a good relationship and he hoped that they can build a better partnership.

“It is normal to have different views. The most important thing is to properly resolve the dissidence through channels as soon as possible,” he said.

He said that UMNO Youth hopes to build a good relationship with both MCA and Gerakan as UMNO Youth alone is unable to assist BN to move forward.

“I hope to call for an UMNO Youth meeting in the near future, hoping that we can have more frequent communications. I hope that the meeting is not limited to once or twice a year, but to have it every two months, so that we really do communicate with each other closely to face and resolve problems,” said Khairy.

He also pointed out that UMNO Youth and BN Youth members will frame a plan to win the people's support and get well prepared for the next general elections. He believed it will bring a surprise to all.

“We will be discussing on the issues of packaging and rebranding in order to gain young people's and students' support. I hope to walk into the University of Tun Abdul Rahman with Wee so that we can have face-to-face communications with the students, hoping to understand their thinking and together, we can discuss on issues of the whole people,” he added.
