Wanita BN To “Tell Truth” In By-election Campaign

(Bernama) — Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) is to campaign in the Bukit Selambau state by-election by telling the voters the truth as it is, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said today.

She said Wanita BN was working as a team to ensure victory for the BN candidate, Datuk S. Ganesan of the MIC.

"We do not have a specific strategy but we will not use deceit or manipulation of statements because we do not believe in those things. We will only explain that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has been given the opportunity but the people here are suffering. We will tell the truth," she told reporters after meeting about 300 Wanita BN workers for the by-election, here.

Shahrizat said the BN government had a proven track record with a strong government and had selected a responsible candidate to take care of the constituents.

The opposition did not have any vision and the many independent candidates, 13 in all, reflected the dissatisfaction of the people with their leadership, she said.

Shahrizat said that after the general election last year, the people could see for themselves that no development was implemented by the PKR state assemblyman V. Arumugam who resigned on Feb 8.

"One year is enough opportunity given by the people here to the opposition. The people here are now like abandoned children," she said.

Nomination for the Bukit Selambau by-election was today. Fifteen candidates, including S. Manikumar of the PKR, are contesting the by-election, polling for which is on April 7.
