Transition will take its course

'Just wait for that. Don't ask me to say anything now. This will happen. The transition will take its course,' he said when asked if the handing over will be right after he meets the King this Thursday to seek his consent to step down.'

MALAYSIA Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has urged the mass media not to continue harping on the date that he will step down as Prime Minister.

He asked people to be patient as the handing over of power to his Najib Razak would take its course.

'Just wait for that. Don't ask me to say anything now. This will happen. The transition will take its course,' he said when asked if the handing over will be right after he meets the King this Thursday to seek his consent to step down.

Mr Abdullah, who launched Puncak Baru, a 60-storey mixed development project to redevelop Kampung Baru yesterday, also chided the Opposition for launching personal attacks against Mr Najib in the Bukit Gantang by-election campaign.

He said the Opposition kept attacking Najib on personal issues despite him already replied to the accusations.

'They think this is a good campaign. Although we do not agree with this, we cannot stop them,' he said, urging all parties not to resort to dirty tactics.

'Tuduh-menuduh (accusations) will always happen in politics even if we do not like it. This is not the way, the right way is good politics.'

He added that the way for the Barisan Nasional to win votes was to show and prove its determination and sincerity in bringing development to the people.

On the Kampung Baru project, Abdullah said that it was understandable that residents were concerned about losing out or being asked to move out.

He said the development in Kampung Baru should be done step by step and not forced upon the people by giving them a deadline, and any move to relocate residents must be done in a proper manner. — THE STAR/ANN
