Divisions want Muhammad replaced

(NST) KAPAR: Members of several Umno divisions in Selangor have been clamouring for state liaison chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib to be replaced after he lost in the party polls last month.

State Umno information chief Datuk Abdul Rahman Palil said the majority of the divisions wanted this to be done.

"Not only that. They want Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to head the state body. He is the most qualified to lead Selangor and avoid any problems of dissatisfaction among Umno members here."

Rahman said Najib could relinquish his post as the Perak liaison chief and hand it to vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said it was improper for Muhammad, who is a former Selangor menteri besar, to hold the position as he no longer held any post in the party or the cabinet.

Muhammad was also previously the rural and regional development minister. He lost in his bid for the deputy president's post and was dropped in the new cabinet line-up.

"However, we will leave this for Najib to decide and will accept his decision on this," said Rahman.
