Muhyiddin to help PM realise vision


(NST) PUTRAJAYA: Pledging to help Datuk Seri Najib Razak achieve his vision of 1Malaysia, the No. 2 man in the government, who officially took office yesterday, said everyone should support the prime minister for a stronger and united nation.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin arrived at his new office about noon and was greeted by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan and senior government officers.

"Certainly there will be responsibilities to be undertaken and a new agenda to be implemented.

"The prime minister has set out his priorities. In line with his emphasis on 1Malaysia, I and other ministers will help him realise his vision. I hope to discharge my duties to the best of my ability."

Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said he would give greater attention to the national education system.

"I am seeking the advice and guidance of the chief secretary to the government as well as other senior officers to assist me in overcoming issues and problems."

He reminded government officers to remain focused in their work.

"It is important to take into consideration what needs to be done and what our priorities are. The prime minister has also emphasised the key performance indicators for ministers and their deputies.

"We must give serious attention to this and our first challenge is to help him to manage this country well and revive the economy.

"Government officers must move together as one, efficiently and with impact. The spirit of cooperation and unity must be enhanced under 1Malaysia."
