Arrest warrant out for PAS vice-president Mat Sabu

(Bernama) – The Jawi Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest for PAS vice-president Mohamad Sabu and nine of his followers for failing to attend a hearing Monday regarding a charge of obstructing a public servant from performing his duty last year.

The court had fixed hearing for three days beginning Monday for all the accused but neither they nor their lawyers were present when the case was called up.

As a result, Deputy Public Prosecutor Yusaini Anuar applied to the court for a warrant of arrest to be issued on Mohamad Sabu and his nine supporters.

Magistrate Norashikin Mokhtar, who replaced Magistrate Mohd Izham Ali who was attending a course, later issued the warrant of arrest and notice to all their bailors and fixed June 22 for remention of the case.

A spokesman for the Jawi Court, when contacted, said the court had already contacted a lawyer for the group who disclosed that they would be present in court tomorrow to appeal for the cancellation of the warrant.

Mohamad Sabu, 53, and nine of his supporters — Zamarul Aini Abdul Malek, 37, Zainal Azrun Zainal Abidin, 35, Abdul Rahim Mat Ariff, 58, Md Lazim Osman, 50, Mohd Biyamin Ishak, 44, Fauzi Saharat, 44, Abdul Razak Ramli, 42, Mohd Subri Mohd Said, 42, and Mohamad Salleh, 47 — are charged with obstructing Supt Mohd Nasir Salleh from handing over a warrant of arrest issued by the Jalan Duta Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur to the PAS leader.

They were accused of committing the offence near the Bukit Tambun Toll Plaza along the North-South Highway at about 7.45pm on Dec 9, last year.
