A-G applies to be intervener

(NST) KUALA LUMPUR: Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has applied to act as intervener in the ongoing dispute on who is the rightful menteri besar of Perak on grounds that he is guardian of public interest.

He said there were uncertainties as disputing parties to the judicial review application interpreted the provisions in the Perak Constitution differently.

"The application which touches on pubic interest and public policy not only has an impact on the interpretation of the Perak Constitution but also the Federal Constitution."

Ousted menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin objected to Gani's application stating that in two earlier hearings in the Federal Court, the A-G had consistently acted in the interest of the Barisan Nasional.

The application will be heard today before High Court judge Abdul Aziz Abd Rahim.
