Anwar’s former aide sues blogger

(NST) SHAH ALAM: Mohd Saiful Bukhari filed a RM2 million defamation suit against a blogger of Pahang Daily online yesterday.

The 24-year-old claimed that the blogger had posted six articles on pahangdaily.blogspot.com alleging he was terminally ill. The articles had been posted since September last year until now.

Last year, Saiful, a former aide of Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, became a house-hold name when he alleged that Anwar had sodomised him.

Anwar was subsequently charged with two counts of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature against Saiful. The case will be tried at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 1 and 24.

The defamation suit was filed through Messrs Shujaa Asram & Co at the High Court registry yesterday.

Saiful, who was present with his lawyer Zamri Idrus, said in a press statement that he had also lodged two police reports against the blogger on Feb 1 and March 3, at the Brickfields and Damansara police stations respectively.

He is claiming general damages, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.

Saiful, however, refused to show a copy of the writ of summons to the media as he did not want to reveal the name of the blogger.

"Let my counsel serve the summons to the defendant first," he said, while showing a copy of a receipt to prove that the suit was filed.
