What can I do?

Becoming ISA fodder in this dark period is no longer a complicated assignment.

If I were to speak out in opposition to the many injustice(s) against the minority here, I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government perceives the majority to be in favour of their guiding principles promoting partiality. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to safeguard the majority from the minorities.

If I were to speak out in opposition to the many abuse(s) against human rights and civil liberties here, I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government distinguishes such a basic freedom as a condemnation of their mandate. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to arrest such ideology before it becomes a menace to society.

If I were to speak out in opposition to Ketuanan Melayu or the Social Contract, I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government interprets such words as seditious and such actions as an attempt to promote feelings of ill will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Malaysia. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to defend the constitution that favours a select race over the rest.

If I were to speak out in favour of "A Malaysia equally for all Malaysians", I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government identifies such language as an attempt to excite disaffection amongst the minorities against the majority. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to nip such beliefs in the bud before it can spread nationwide.

If I were to speak out in favour of Freedom of Speech, I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government is of the opinion that the Rakyat remains unprepared for such veracity, half a  century after achieving independence. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to protect the people from knowing the “offensive” truth in order to shield their sensibilities.

Either way, I will be categorically classified as an undesirable element that requires instant extermination for the good of the majority. Failing that, the need to separate my existence from society shall become paramount and I will be indefinitely detained at their pleasure until such a time the government sees fit to release me.

Becoming ISA fodder in this dark period is no longer a complicated assignment. Once upon a time, one needed to be a member of the CPM (or an active sympathiser) before this law can be exercised. In this day and age, and after a multitude of revisions to the original act, one can be incarcerated for life without trial just by being a seeker of freedom, equality, justice and truth.

If the government does not like the way you walk or the way you talk, you could be on an all-expenses paid, one-way trip to the “nationally-sponsored” resort of Kamunting for the perpetual administration of “free” rehabilitation.

What all this means is that the government deems it their Numero Uno responsibility to preserve the status quo as per se. Any person or organisation that transgresses this state of affairs shall be distinctively identified as anti-administration and shall incur the full wrath of the government and the judiciary. Repressive legislations have henceforth been enacted to permit those in power to utilise them as the law to apprehend those they regard as subversive elements to the society as a whole. No proof required, no evidence called for, no reasons needed, no appeals catered for, no judiciary intervention and royal pardons heard of.

The few brave souls within the government that have spoken out against such tyranny have been summarily dismissed from their positions, sacked from the party and is closely monitored for other infringements whereby the full brunt of the BN machinery will be brought down against these so-called “traitors against their race”.

How it ever transformed from a question of human rights to a racial discourse is never specified.

In this country, it would be safe to state that scandals involving the administration will not get the person responsible dismissed. Challenging party policies does the trick nicely.

Integrity and ethics are such filthy words in Malaysian politics.

BTW, if I were to post objectionable comments in a certain website in opposition to governmental policies, I will be labelled as a national security threat because the government regards such postings as an attempt to discredit them. It is therefore their assumed responsibility to provide me shelter within one of their many walled institutions.
