Still no news from husband

(THE STAR) – Kindergarten teacher M. Indira Gandhi is still waiting for her estranged husband to surrender their infant daughter to her, after the Ipoh High Court gave her custody on Friday.

Indira, 34, said there was still no news from her husband, K. Patmanathan.

“I have been in deep grief for the past one month, since he took away my baby whom I am still breastfeeding,” she said yesterday, adding that she had been crying and pining for one-year-old Prasana Diksa.

She said the last time she had spoken to Patmanathan, 40, was on Friday evening, when the jobless former contractor called to tell her that he was taking their daughter to Singapore.

“I have done everything in

my power to get back my daughter. I appeal for information to reunite me with my Prasana,” she said, noting that her

husband’s mobile phone was switched off later.

In another development, the Perak DAP and the Malaysia Hindu Sangam have launched a poster campaign to look for Patmana-than.

Indira’s lawyer A. Sivanesan said 5,000 posters would be distributed nationwide with pictures of Patmanathan and Prasana, in a bid to locate them.

“We believe he is still in Malaysia,” he said, expressing his disappointment with the police for failing to locate Patmanathan.

Sivanesan said the legal team representing Indira was looking at the possibility of citing Patma-nathan for contempt of court.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Azisman Alias said police were still clueless about the whereabouts of Patma-nathan and Prasana.

Those with information can call the Ipoh district police (05-254 2222), Sivanesan (017-240 2156), Malaysia Hindu Sangam’s J. Vijayalingam (016-505 8175) or Nanthakumar (012-588 0746).

Meanwhile, Perak Mufti Datuk Seri Harusani Zakaria defended Patmanathan’s action in taking away the baby, claiming that the father had received an interim order from the Syariah Court to keep her.
