Dr M to campaign in Penanti…if BN takes on PKR

(NST) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has pledged to campaign for the Barisan Nasional if the ruling coalition decides to contest the Penanti by-election.

Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak had floated the idea of BN not contesting in Penanti but a decision is expected to be made only on May 18 after a BN leaders meeting.

Dr Mahathir had, however, been vocal in pushing for BN to contest, saying it would be bad for the morale of party workers if Parti Keadilan Rakyat was granted a “free” victory.

On bloggers humiliating the Perak sultan over the state political crisis, Dr Mahathir said the rulers must be respected.

“We should not put the rulers in an embarrassing situation. Nowadays, people want to sue the sultan and this is very bad. The law was not made for the people to sue the sultan, politically.”

Dr Mahathir also said when bloggers or the media started spreading rumours or telling lies, then they should be prosecuted.
