Much like death,the end comes to everthing


Since the last general elections, politics seem to have found much more space in people’s psyche. What has happened most certainly was that Malaysians have discovered to their glee that there are many like-minded people out there who have been, and are unhappy with the way they are being governed and have found possibilities with their democratic freedom.

Since I have dabbled in politics for the past 28 years, I can say that political events, whether they happen in Malaysia or anywhere in the world, tend to grab my attention. I often joked with people who said hello to me in the past, whether I was still involved with this business, and my reply was always the terse “if a dog is used to eating shit, even if it were to stop eating, it will at least smell it”. That of course was a direct translation of the Malay proverb, “anjing yang  biasa makan tahi, kalau tidak makanpun, dia akan mencium juga.” 

Since the last general elections, politics seem to have found much more space in people’s psyche. What has happened most certainly was that Malaysians have discovered to their glee that there are many like-minded people out there who have been, and are unhappy with the way they are being governed and have found possibilities with their democratic freedom.

Likewise, there are large numbers on the other side of the divide who are alarmed to a point of losing their minds as to how to deal with the seemingly unstoppable wave of discordant voices. It would appear to me that like a long road race, those who come in much later, tend to outrun those who started long before. The Barisan Nasional is in this quandary.
