Liu threatens to picket over third bridge issue

(The Star) KLANG: Selangor Local Government, Study and Research Committee chairman Ronnie Liu has threatened a picket if the Federal Government fails to act on Klang’s third bridge issue.

He said he had written a letter last week to Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor, with the signatures of all Klang assemblymen and its MP, requesting the Federal Government to carry on with the bridge project.

“I will seriously consider holding a picket at the Works Ministry’s office in Putrajaya if it fails to answer us.

“I have yet to receive any reply from the ministry and will wait for one month,” he said after a dialogue with residents at the Klang Municipal Council Hall yesterday.

Klang’s third bridge project was launched by MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo just before the general election in March last year .

The RM230mil project will include the construction of a 2.5km-long road from Jalan Bersih, a 0.5km bridge and four flyovers to help ease traffic congestion.

However, it was reported at the end of last year that the third bridge project had been put on hold.

Liu said that Klang, with a population of more than one million, was in serious need of a third, and even fourth, bridge.

He added that the public blamed the state government and him for failing to commence the project, not realising that it was the Works Ministry’s responsibility.
