MACC Will Investigate Claim Of Money Politics In PAS

(Bernama) — The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) will investigate into an allegation by PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Mohamed Daud Iraqi of money politics in the party.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan, however, said that the commission had yet to receive a report on the matter, including from Mohamed.

"He did not lodge a report. He suspects, which might not be true. We'll wait, if there is (report), we will investigate," he told reporters after closing a Rakan Muda programme here Thursday.

Ahmad Said said there was a possibility that MACC would call Mohamed to record his statement.

On investigations of alleged corruption by for Sabah Umno Youth chief Datuk Japlin Akin, he said investigation was in progress.

"If there is evidence, we will bring the case to court," he added.

Japlin was among 12 Umno members found guilty of money politics by the party's Disciplinary Board on March 17 and whose party membership had been suspended for three years.

In another development, Ahmad Said said MACC had detained 203 people on suspicion of being involved in corrupt practices during the first five months of this year, and that 68 of them had been charged in court.

"We received 5,035 complaints, where 441 investigation papers were opened by MACC," he added.
