Wing lodges report against Salahuddin

(The Star) IPOH: Perak Umno Youth has lodged a police report against PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub for allegedly insulting the integrity and reputation of the judiciary.

Its secretary Syamsul Baharin Putra Ahmad Shibi claimed Salahuddin had shown disrespect to the Court of Appeal judges with his statement on www.harakahdaily.net that they could be bribed.

“It was reported on the Internet that they are worried that the court decision on Thursday would favour Barisan Nasional because the judges consist of those who can be bought,” he said after lodging the report at the Sungai Senam police station yesterday.

“His statement is slanderous to the integrity and reputation of the country’s judiciary,” he added.

The Court of Appeal is hearing today Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir’s appeal against last week’s High Court decision that Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin was the rightful Perak Mentri Besar.

He said Umno Youth had never questioned the High Court decision when it ruled in favour of Nizar on May 11.

At a separate press conference later, a group of lawyers who called themselves “Young Lawyers for Justice” also slammed Salahuddin’s statement, saying that it would lead to people thinking that there was no need to respect the judiciary or the laws of the country.
