Perhimpunan Haram

I have always thought that the police station is a place that one can find safety at any time of the day. That it is accessible to anyone anytime. To protect and preserve is what policing is all about. Recent events have proved otherwise.

I am most amused by the antics of the OCPD of Brickfields Police Station recently when lawyers gathered at the station to represent their client arrested earlier. What kind of police force do we have in Malaysia?

This stupid OCPD even used the loud hailer to issue threats to have those gathered at the station arrested for illegal assembly. Now what does this moron mean when he said illegal assembly?

Most dictionaries will define assembly as a gathering of a group of people in a place for a common purpose. Whether it is legal or not, the police have the final say.

I cannot help but giggle to myself when this truly stupid OCPD even says that the gathering of these lawyers at Brickfields Police Station does not have a permit. Watch the video on You Tube and you will know what I mean.

This OCPD has acted so unprofessionally that even a professional gangster has more charm than him. I mean, the least he can do is to explain to these lawyers why they cannot meet their client. Is that too difficult?

Why can’t Mr. OCPD exercise some give and take? Surely five minutes per lawyer-client is not that excessive. Is there anything they don’t want the lawyers to see? Are they doing a Kugan in the lock-up? Or did Mr. OCPD have an unbearable itch down there that he has to rush to somewhere?

Lets say a group of Mat Rempit was arrested. The families of those arrested plus their lawyers show up at Brickfields Police Station. Is this an illegal assembly? Will the same OCPD do the same by shouting that it is an illegal assembly and that there is no permit?

And what if a group of people wishes to make a police report? Will they only be allowed into the station two by two as shown in the video on You Tube?

I have always thought that the police station is a place that one can find safety at any time of the day. That it is accessible to anyone anytime. To protect and preserve is what policing is all about. Recent events have proved otherwise.

Go to any decent country. All police stations are open throughout the day or night. Even in Thailand, you can walk in to any police station anytime. Of course, there is no need to compare to countries like Singapore. I think from this video, Malaysia will be one of the few countries that police station gates are closed and that the public is not welcomed.

Of course, not all OCPD and officers are as rude as this chap from Brickfields. I have met some very helpful and courteous policemen, but this idiot has done so much damage to the already tainted police force that I think the negative public perception is irreversible.

I am not sure how many persons in a group defines an assembly, but if the police are so strict about the gathering of a group of people for a common purpose, then maybe we as law abiding citizens should apply permits everytime we gather among family members, relatives, friends or colleagues. Be it for dinner, movies, Saturday night out, camping and picnics at the beach or shopping at Lot 10 and even for a funeral, we all should apply for permits. Let's all apply for assembly permits since the Malaysian police, especially this OCPD from Brickfields Police Station is so adamant about it.

Anyway, I wonder if Najib applied for a permit when he and his entourage gathered at a place for a common purpose, which is to do his walkabout recently? Hmmmph……..!!
