Perak DAP chairman Ngeh Koo Ham has lodged a report against the police for abusing their power after they denied him access to see Pakatan Rakyat elected representative and supporters detained at a hunger strike held earlier in the day.

Ngeh, who is also Sitiawan assemblyman and Beruas MP, told reporters he was not even allowed to pass on medication to his colleague, M Kulasegaran, the Ipoh Barat MP who is sufferring from fever and diarrhoea.

“This is really shocking behaviour from the police. The intolerance that they have shown today is an omen for the country. Malaysians must put a stop to this, we can no longer condone such practices,” Ngeh said.

How many more people do you want to arrest?

Police nabbed 19 people outside Wisma DAP, where Pakatan Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin had launched a three-day hunger strike to protest the unpopular power grab sprung by Prime Minister Najib Razak in February.

They were arrested for allegedly refusing to disperse.

The elected representatives detained were popular state assembly Speaker V Sivakumar, who is also Tronoh ADUN, Malim Nawar ADUN Keshvinder Singh, Pasir Pinji ADUN Thomas Su, Jalong ADUN Leong Mee Meng, Menglembu ADUN Lim Pek Har, Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran, Teja ADUN Chang Lih Kang, Simpang Pulai ADUN Chan Ming Kai.

Nizar himself escaped detention as he had to hurry over to the High Court, where 817 village heads and committee members were filing a suit against the Umno-BN state administration for sacking them before their terms expired.

“Surveys show that 90 percent of the people want the dissolution of state assembly,” Nizar said. “People don’t want a menteri besar elected by a questionable court. They want a menteri besar elected by the people. Whatever decision made by the court, it is peoples’ power that will make the final decision.”
