Nothing indecent happened at hotel, says Aminah

(NST) BUKIT MERTAJAM: After leaving many in suspense since Tuesday, Penanti independent candidate Aminah Abdullah said yesterday nothing indecent happened between her and state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief Datuk Zahrain Hashim at a hotel in Jawi two years ago.

Aminah said: "It actually relates to a party matter, not something indecent."

Aminah said Zahrain had accused her of not doing her job as the state PKR Wanita chief and scolded her in front of other PKR Wanita division leaders.

She said it happened during a break at a women's seminar at the hotel a few years ago when Zahrain and four other men "verbally humiliated" her.

Asked why she had chosen to bring up the matter now, Aminah said Zahrain was the person who started it by challenging her to show proof of the bribery claims she had made against PKR.

"It was not my intention to bring this up and attack him. He had challenged me first.

"What he did at the hotel back then was to take me down as the state Wanita chief," she said at her operation centre in Kubang Ulu in Penanti.

Zahrain has so far refused to engage Aminah in a debate, claiming that she was a compulsive liar. He has also threatened to sue Aminah for slander.

Aminah, however, said Zahrain could do whatever he wanted because she also had the recording of the incident at the Jawi hotel in a compact disc (CD).

"I have the habit of recording conversations because I have learnt from my previous PKR meetings that what transpires today may be denied tomorrow.

"I had my recorder on for the lectures when Zahrain came in."

However, Aminah would not reveal when she would make the CD public, saying she thought it was unnecessary unless Zahrain persisted in his accusations against her.

She dared Zahrain to answer her latest accusation and called on him to resign as the state's party chief.

Aminah added that she would reveal more information before or after polling day on May 31.

She thanked PKR vice-president Azmin Ali for naming her "Minah Ronggeng" (woman of loose character).

"I am quite thrilled with the name. I thank him for the advice he gave me when I was still in the party that we should never use personal attacks in election campaigns. I will follow his advice."

Aminah also said she had received a legal notice from PKR yesterday morning and would leave the matter to her lawyer. She did not give details.
